JIH President Expresses Condolences over Huge Loss of Life, Destruction by Earthquakes in Türkiye, Syria

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) President Syed Sadatullah Husaini has expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the huge loss of life and destruction caused by the deadly earthquake of 7.8 magnitudes that struck Türkiye and Syria early Monday morning. According to the latest report, more than 24,600 persons, including over 14000 in Türkiye and 3,553 in Syria, have died in this natural calamity.

In a media statement, the JIH President said, “The incident reminds us of the helplessness of humanity before the Almighty God. I express my condolences to the bereaved families and pray to the Almighty God for a speedy recovery to those injured in the natural calamity. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind expresses its solidarity with the people affected by the earthquake and will do its best to extend assistance to the victims in all possible ways.”

Appreciating the Government of India’s quick offer to provide humanitarian aid to the earthquake victims of Türkiye and Syria, Mr. Husaini appealed to the Indian Government to increase the quantum of relief if needed.

The JIH leader also appealed to the Indian public to contribute generously to the relief if the Indian government makes a provision for the general public to contribute to humanitarian assistance for the earthquake victims.

 

Earthquake Hits Palestine, with Its Epicentre in Nablus

An earthquake hit Palestine on February 7 and was felt in several governorates, including Ramallah, Al-Bireh and Nablus.The Director of Seismic Engineering Unit at An-Najah National University in Nablus, Dr Jalal Dabbeek, stated that the epicentre of the earthquake was 13 kilometres north of the city of Nablus, in the Fara’a-Carmel rift, with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale, and a depth of ten kilometres, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.

The Middle East region is witnessing aftershocks, following the devastating earthquake that hit Türkiye and Syria at dawn on February 6.The first earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.8, occurred on Monday at 3:17 (01:17 GMT) and was felt by the residents of Lebanon, Palestine, Cyprus and northern Iraq. This was followed by at least 185 aftershocks, one of which had a magnitude of 7.5 at noon on Monday and another with a 5.5magnitude at dawn on Tuesday.

 

Arab World Prays for Earthquake Victims

Thousands of citizens performed prayers in absentia in mosques in Arab countries on Friday for the souls of earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria.In Palestine, thousands performed prayers in West Bank mosques for the earthquake victims, followed by a collection of donations organised by the Ministry of Religious Endowments.

Tens of thousands of Palestinian worshippers also performed prayers in absentia in both Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, and the mosques of the Gaza Strip.

In the Emirates, worshipers performed after Friday prayers in all mosques in the country, for the souls of the earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria, in response to the invitation of the UAE President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Bahrain’s capital, Manama also witnessed prayers in absentia for the earthquake victims in Syria and Türkiye.

In many other Arab countries also prayers in absentia were offered.
