Islami Relief Committee Gujarat, a leading Muslim organisation working under Jamaat-e-Islami Hind in Gujarat, requested the Gujarat High Court to join its proceeding on the issue of the central government extending financial support to a particular community on religious grounds. The original petitioner, Adam Chaki, a Congressman, has opposed the IRCG’s request. IRCG argued before the High Court that it came to know about the proceeding through news reports and expressed desire to be a part of it since it is an important issue regarding rights of the minority. Chaki’s counsel Hashim Qureshi said the court dismissed IRCG’s plea but permitted it to become an intervener, saying that anybody can address the court as intervener.
