Teachers Association of Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, has criticised the government’s lackadaisical attitude towards appointment of the Vice Chancellor of the university. The association has threatened to kick off a battery of strikes if their demands do not meet. The association also demanded from the government to assign the post for someone who hails from academic background and not from bureaucracy or military.
It is worthy to note here that the seat has been vacant since the former VC of the Jamia, Najeeb Jung, was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Delhi in July 2013. Then a search committee was constituted with JN Qazi, VC Jamia Hamdard, Justice Aftab Alam of Supreme Court and Prof. Ved Prakash of University Grants Commission as members. But the committee is yet to start its work. An advertisement in this regard has also been circulated reportedly for the first time in newspapers inviting application for the post of VC.
