DR S. AUSAF SAIED VASFI analyses the moral degeneration of society and criminalisation of politics and asks Muslims to stand up, be counted and start a jihad against all crippling moral diseases.

Think of a scenario in which an assassin, voluntarily approaches the judicial authority to cleanse him of the crime of killing an innocent person.
Think of a scenario in which a rapist, voluntarily admits his crime before a judge and requests him to free him from the guilt by liquidating him.

THIEF & HIS HAND
Think of a scenario in which a thief voluntarily knocks at the doors of judiciary, confesses that he stole the hard-earned money of an honest industrialist and beseeches him to cut his hand so that he may not indulge in thiefery in future and his case may serve as an eye-opener to others.
Think of a scenario in which a father-in-law or a mother-in-law, voluntarily go to a court to regretfully inform the judge that they sniffed off the life of their innocent daughter-in-law just because she could not bring sufficient dowry.
Think of a scenario in which the tax-dodgers are seem in a long, disciplined queue, formed to voluntarily deposit their decades-old dues.
Think of a scenario in which land-grabbers and encroachers voluntarily return their adverse possessions to their rightful owners.
Think of a scenario in which the “professional witnesses” easily available in and around courts, voluntarily resolve to give up their dirty profession and lead a clean life.
Think of a scenario in which the prostitutes and gays voluntarily repent for their past deeds and sincerely resolve to henceforth lead dignified life.
Think of a scenario in which builders voluntarily return the money earned by building a weak bridge with poor material and decide to strengthen the vulnerable structure from their own pocket.

INTEREST-FREE BANKS
Think of a scenario in which banks, as a matter of policy, provide loans to the needy without any interest, and the poor are benefited from the rich without any obligation!
Think of a scenario in which the habitual drunkards and drug-addicts are found standing in a long line waiting for de-toxification and de-addiction.
Think of a society free from casinos and gambling dens. Think of a society free from scams, scandals and economic sleaze.
Think of a society in which the criterion of respectability and superiority is individual and collective piety – not higher cast, higher income, higher standard of living and higher political connections.
Think of a household in which the elders are affectionate and caring and the youngsters are sweet and obedient; a household in which backbiting and nagging are unknown, a household in which the aging and the aged are dealt with pronounced consideration, a household in which nobody is frank to fault.
Think of a society in our country in which the Prime Minister is the “First Servant” of India.” (This is how the late lamented Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru had taken his first oath of office, soon after Independence in 1947). And simultaneously, think of a State Legislature and the Central Parliament, whose each and every legislator is a “Model Citizen”, ever above self and ever eager to serve his constituency and the nation.
After this long “didactic sermon” your patience seems to have exhausted and you are, perhaps of the opinion that by any stretch of imagination, this utopian talk is not going to alter the ground reality.

GROUND-REALITY
This scribe also feels the ground reality is totally different. As the matters stand, the ground reality is: Bharat is the seventh most corrupt state in the world. And the less said the better about those who represent this state in the State Legislatures and the Central Parliament.
The Lok Sabha records show that every fourth Parliamentarian has a criminal record. The Congress-led-UPA’s 36 MPs have criminal background; two of whom are already in jail. The BJP-led NDA, which has 37 MPs, is no better as 26 of them have criminal record.
According to the “Citizen’s Report on Governance and Development – 2006,” 136 Members of Parliament in the 14th Lok Sabha have criminal background. The report, prepared by the “National Social Watch Coalition,” reveals that about 25 per cent of Lok Sabha MPs have criminal cases against them. Young MPs are frequent law breakers. In the current Lok Sabha, 30.4 per cent of MPs between the age group of 36 and 45 are facing criminal charges. Among them, 18.3 per cent are facing serious charges. The Hindi-region states such as UP, Bihar, Jharkhand and MP have sent to Lok Sabha MPs who are facing serious criminal charges like murder, rape and extortion.

REPORTS REVEAL
Another report, prepared in February for the Allahabad High Court, shows that over one-fourth of UP’s representatives in Parliament, the State Assembly and at the Punchayat level had extremely dubious records.
* 24 of the 80 MPs face 128 criminal case which include murder, dacoity, extortion, kidnapping and disrupting public life.
« MP of the SP, BSP, BJP and Congress figured on the list.
« 15 cases against 10 MPs are pending police investigation.
« There are 271 cases against 110 of the 402 MLAs.
« Investigation in 32 cases against 23 MLAs is pending.
« There are 270 criminal cases against 89 Block Pramukhs.
« Nine case are against six Zila Panchayat chairpersons.

HEADY MIX
It’s the heady mix of crime and politics that, to quote a commentator, helps them derail or delay police action.
As the report shows, he oldest case against a politician goes as far back as 22 years. There are instances in which the status of the cases is unknown.
The state government has in fact admitted in its report that records of 21 criminal cases against MPs and MLAs are missing.
One of the beneficiaries is Harishankar Tiwari, once a Congress MLA. Since 1997 he has been a minister with the last five chief ministers.
Mukhtar Ansari has been with BSP and now with SP. Dacoit Dadua has always backed BSP.
The analysis of the Public Affairs Centre cites: a higher percentage of the less educated MPs is rich and has more criminal cases than those with higher education. The less educated are best off financially. Money and muscle power bring more votes. The decline in the Indian polity is alarmingly dangerous.

IPS CRIMINALS
Now a word about “gentlemen criminals” from the prestigious All-India Services. That was perhaps the only category missing from the proverbial rogues gallery of Bharat. Besides the illiterate or semi-literate Ministers and Parliamentarians, now we have highly educated IAS and IPS Officers over there. A section of them has taken to crime “out of patriotic reasons” Word “Deshbhakti” has been attributed as motive to some of the criminal officers committed in Gujarat, Andhra and Rajasthan. Some of them conceived the idea of liquidating Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife, Kausar Bi while others facilitated the “patriotic task”. Now the Dirty Harries are facing the music. That, however is not the topic under discussion. The issue is crime, committed by officers of Saffron hue, at the behest of Saffron authority. How do the saffron bosses look at it one does not know. To the common men, this “deshbhakti” brackets them with the “enemy within” or deshdarohis.
It can be reasonably argued that today’s Bharat is producing best brains, which is true. This is also true that now India has moved into the elite club of 11 economic powerhouses. We have now crossed the trillion dollar threshold. All this is true. But any moral laper can perform that feat. So has done the US. In today’s America, the so-called live-ins are in larger number than the legally married families. Now you can very well think about the “status” of children born out of the formal wedlock. It is amorality and neutrality between good and evil that has saped us from within.

MUSLIM RESPONSIBILITY
Let us turn the search-light inwards. As we all know, and see the rot daily, the national parties and the national leadership have failed to wriggle Bharat out of the muddle. Let us prepare Muslims now for leadership of the nation.
The arithmetic is simple. Each Muslim will have to convince just nine non-Muslims of the need of a thorough moral rearmament through precept and practice. The task is obviously too-stupendous, nerve wrecking and patience trying. But it has no alternative. It has to be done for the sake of the country and for the sake of Hereafter. Muslim survival and supremacy are conditioned everywhere to scrupulous adherence to Islamic principles and honest projection of Islam at all levels.
Just think of the scenario when a woman, for example, would be able to travel all alone from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Kutch to Kareemganj, and she would have no fear in her heart except that of Allah.
