Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, at a press conference in the national capital on 6 December, expressed concern over the manner in which the Babri Masjid demolition case has been lingered over years and expressed that justice will prevail at last and Babri Masjid will be restored at the original site. JIH also asked the Prime Minister to break his silence on the issue of hate speech and take necessary action against the leaders propagating hate with mean language and resorting to communal polarisation ahead of every election.

Ejaz Ahmed Aslam, Secretary JIH, while talking to media persons, said that the destruction of Babri Masjid has changed the political history of India. Now it is being said that the history of Independent India will now be written by characterising the event after the Babri Masjid demolition. JIH along with likeminded people, who believe in secularism and democracy and who respect the law of the land, will keep on fighting for the sake of justice because it was not mere demolition of a mosque or simply an issue pertaining to Muslims but rather a matter of concern for all those who want secularism and democracy to prevail in the country.

Nusrat Ali, Secretary General JIH, while replying to a question, said those who were responsible for the demolition of the Babri Masjid are roaming free. “The Babri case has moved with a snail’s space and no action was taken on the Liberhan Commission’s report. Now the case is in the Supreme Court and we wish it to move fast. I believe that the mindset of the country is based on secularism and dictatorship either of an individual or any group or any party may not work. For the time being, if some has got power, he can do so but power does change hands. In India, there is rule of law and it will prevail. We are hopeful that Babri Masjid will be built at the original site and the Supreme Court will rule in its favour.”

On the question of hate speech, Nusrat Ali said that on the one hand the BJP has asked some of its leaders to talk in terms of development but on the other hand some of its ministers and social organisations are actively working in the direction to polarise the sentiments of the people and the government is silent.

Nusrat Ali, while addressing the press meet, said that the idea of secular forces joining hands to take on BJP is step in the right direction but the group has a lot of home work to do and it would be too early to say anything more on that without knowing their agenda with respect to minorities because in the past their role too was not satisfactory.
