Renowned social worker and All India Muslim Personal Law Board Working Committee member Kamal Farooqui has been appointed chairman of Delhi Minorities Commission for the next three-year term. He succeeds Professor Abu Bakr, whose term had expired about eight months ago and the post had been lying vacant ever since. With the clearance of his name by Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna, the Government of Delhi released a notification in this regard on May 12.

A chartered accountant by profession, Mr Farooqui is at present Director Central Bank of India, EC member of Choudhary Charan Singh University and Court member of Aligarh Muslim University . He has been associated with many a social, educational and religious organisations and institutions, including AIMPLB, All India Milli Council and New Horizon School .

An authority on Information Technology besides bank and financial management, Mr Farooqui is one of the champions of women education and modernisation of madrasa syllabi.
