Afghan ulema warned Karzai over growing Christian proselytising by foreign aid groups in Afghanistan. During a meeting of Afghanistan’s influential Islamic Council it was said that foreign aid groups were freely proselytising in the country. Some 23 South Korean Christian volunteers working for Saemmul Presbyterian Church in Seoul were kidnapped by Taliban last year for proselytising. The council, which is made up of scholars from across the country, also urged Karzai to stop local TV stations from airing Indian soap operas and movies showing obscenities and scenes which threatened the morality of society. The council also called for reintroducing public executions for murderers as well as a crackdown against graft.
