“It is an irony that the ATS chief is not safe and can be killed like this, how can common people feel safe in this country?” said Kavita Karkare, wife of slain ATS chief of Maharashtra Hemant Karkare, who was killed in the 26/11 terror attacks.  She was attending a programme to launch a video album on corruption in the police force in Mumbai. The album ‘Yahi Sach Hai’ has been directed and produced by former I.P.S officer Y.P. Singh and his wife Abha. “The memorial and tribute services do not help reduce the sorrow of the families who have lost their loved ones in the terror attacks,” tearful Kavita said. “Mumbai police do not care about their own brethren and are indulging in several wrongdoings since long.” Y.P. Singh told reporters.

Kavita also questioned the state government why her husband and two other senior officials who were killed on the attack did not get reinforcements on time. Speaking to the media, Kavita said, “I didn’t know anything in the initial six months, politicians, media people and other people were coming to my place, and I was not aware what exactly was going around. Nobody ever told me that what exactly happened that day. No senior officers told me till date what had happened with my husband. I gathered information from media, people, or read in magazines and newspapers, till date I don’t know the exact facts of that day. But when politicians started raising questions saying that he acted in very hasty manner and went for the operation blindly then we started gathering facts about the incident.” She questioned why Karkare and other fellows could not get help in 40 minutes.
