Kazakhstan has achieved a major medical breakthrough by performing its first robot-assisted heart surgery, setting a new benchmark for the country and the Central Asian region. The landmark procedure was carried out on Nov. 13 at the Medical Centre Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration (MCUDP) in Astana.
The surgery was conducted by Kazakh cardiac surgeons in collaboration with a team of Chinese specialists as part of an international scientific and practical conference, according to the hospital’s press service. The event also featured consultations from global experts, including Dr. Olga Dzhioeva (Moscow) and Prof. Jeon Yungwoo (South Korea).
Using a minimally invasive technique and an advanced robotic surgical system, the medical team successfully completed the operation. The patient is reported to be in stable condition.
The conference also covered a wide range of topics, including cardiology, oncology, nuclear medicine, neurosurgery, digital healthcare, and pharmaceutical regulation. The knowledge-sharing programme featured joint consultations with experts from Russia and Japan.
Serving as a significant platform for collaboration and innovation, the event gathered over 4,000 participants from Kazakhstan and ten other countries, discussing topics from cardiac surgery and oncology to digital healthcare and pharmaceutical regulation. Live sessions attracted more than 4,000 online viewers.
