Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, while addressing a public meet, organised by the organisation, at its headquarters on 17 May, said there is no reason for the Muslims to be anxious and instead they should have confidence and try to resolve issues if and when they arise as per the law and not get provoked or tempted to violent means for getting things done.

The JIH leader, while taking stock of the issues and challenges before Muslims, after elections, said that now it is a fact that BJP has won and that too with absolute majority and apart from polarisation enormous money was spent to lure voters and influence voters’ mind which is now debated. Maulana Omari also said that it is widely known that the BJP has traditionally opposed Muslims and has always attempted to tamper with issues of Muslims and now they are in majority, there is possibility that they may try to interfere with the personal law and raise the Babri Masjid issue more aggressively. In all such issues, Muslims have tried to solve them in the framework of the law.

Maulana Omari asked the Muslims to have confidence and not be afraid and depressed and at the same time reminded that there can be nothing worse for Muslims than partition and if Muslims have faced it then they can face any eventuality no matter how grave it is. Omari informed the gathering that that this time the number of Muslims elected is less than expected and pointed out that the number does not mean a lot because only few Muslim candidates raise issues of Muslims as desired while others follow their party line. He further said that despite all efforts by various Muslim organisations Muslim votes were divided and from now onwards Muslims should try to take others along with them because despite their numbers and percentage they need some others to help any candidate to emerge victorious of their choice and interest.

In his concluding remarks, he said that JIH should take lead in building greater participation and cooperation among communities and Muslim organisations and open the dialogue process on how Islam can be useful in all walks of life to those who have been opposed to it since ages. Omari, while replying to a question, said that Muslims generally rely on political parties to get their issues addressed; it is high time now that they must try to get things done which they themselves can do in association with all other Muslim organisations and like-minded people.
