Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on October 10 announced the formation of an 11-member team to study the Sachar committee report on social, economic and educational status of Muslims, which was tabled in parliament in November last year.
“The team has been asked to submit its report in three months and is headed by local self government minister Paloly Mohammed Kutty. It consists of senior parliament members, legislators and eminent persons,” Achuthanandan told reporters after the weekly cabinet meeting in Thiruvananthapuram.
With Muslims constituting 24 per cent of Kerala’s total population of 32 million, the state has the second largest number of Muslims of all the states in the country.
