A computer science teacher at Aligarh Muslim University was shot dead in a targeted attack inside the campus, triggering fear and grief among students and staff. CCTV footage shows the attackers continued to fire at the victim’s head even after he collapsed on the ground.
The victim, Rau Danish Ali, taught computer science at ABK High School, AMU campus, for more than a decade. On Dec. 24, he walked near the Maulana Azad Library canteen with two colleagues when two armed men intercepted them. The assailants arrived on a scooter and threatened the group at gunpoint before opening fire.
CCTV cameras near Kennedy Hall captured the attack. Students and staff ran for safety. One colleague told police that one shooter issued a warning moments before firing, signalling a deliberate and planned assault.
Investigators said six to seven bullets were fired at close range. Four bullets hit Ali’s head and one struck his arm. AMU security personnel reached the spot soon after, though the attackers escaped. Ali was taken to J.N. Medical College, where doctors declared him dead.
Ali’s brother, Dr Rau Faraz, filed an FIR at the Civil Lines police station under murder and attempt to murder provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Ali is survived by his wife, two children, and his parents. All family members remain closely linked to the university. The family had planned to leave for Umrah in the coming days.
