According to sections of the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) Act, 1964, the Karnataka government has prohibited releasing or broadcasting the movie “HamareBaarah” for two weeks or until the next order, said an ANI report
According to the Karnataka government, if it is allowed to be released in the state, it would cause conflict between the various communities. The authorities came to this judgment after looking over the requests from several delegations and minority organizations and after watching the teaser.
The movie’s teaser implies that, despite portraying itself as a “messiah” for Muslim women, it is actually just another attempt to denigrate Muslims, Muslim families, and particularly Muslim men.
A line from Surah Baqarah, a chapter in the Holy Qur’an, is misquoted in the trailer’s opening moments by an actor playing a cleric from Dawat-e-Islami, a Muslim group connected to the Barelvi school of thought.
The makers of the movie have attempted to hold Muslims responsible for society’s problems, a claim supported by the verse in their view. “Aurtaintumharikheti hen” is said by the actor in the scene.
The government has ordered the producer and director to stop using Quranic verses that they misconstrued to create provocative and deceptive statements. The ruling continues, “There were also scenes in the movie that tried to incite one community against another by demeaningly portraying another community.”
