Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman N.A. Haris, MLA, on May 5 demanded that the government order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the encroachment of wakf properties across the State. The Congress legislator said the Karnataka State Minorities Commission chairman Anwar Manippady had come out with a “baseless” report that named leaders such as Union Minister for Labour and Employment M. Mallikarjun Kharge, the former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh, MP, the former Union Ministers C.K. Jaffer Sharief and C.M. Ibrahim, the former Karnataka Ministers R. Roshan Baig and Qamar-ul Islam, and the Janata Dal (S) MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan.
