Lawyers Association for Constitution Launched in Delhi, Calls for Stronger Constitutional Safeguards

The association said it would function as a strictly non-partisan organisation and remain open to practising lawyers, law students and teachers of law who subscribe to its objectives. However, positions of office-bearers will be reserved for qualified practising legal professionals.

Marking the 80th Independence Day, a new platform of legal professionals, the Lawyers Association for Constitution (LAFC), was launched at an inaugural meeting held at Kerala House in New Delhi, bringing together lawyers and members of the legal fraternity committed to strengthening constitutional values, professional independence and transparency in legal institutions.

The association said it would function as a strictly non-partisan organisation and remain open to practising lawyers, law students and teachers of law who subscribe to its objectives. However, positions of office-bearers will be reserved for qualified practising legal professionals.

The launch meeting witnessed extensive deliberations on the role of the legal profession in protecting constitutional democracy and strengthening institutions. Several prominent members of the Bar and former judges participated in the discussions, including Senior Advocate C.U. Singh, former Patna High Court judge Justice Anjana Prakash, former Allahabad High Court judge Justice Amar Sharan, Senior Advocates Nandita Rao, Amit Anand Tiwari and ShadanFarasat.

Advocates Madhu Saran and Devvrut, President of the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA), also addressed the gathering. Formal proceedings were followed by an open-floor discussion in which lawyers shared their concerns and suggestions regarding the functioning of the legal system.
