This is apropos of the cover stories of the Radiance 23-29 June. The Maoist threat seems getting more and more momentum with every passing day. The figure attached with the story draws a horrible picture of them. In the cycle of violence between the Maoists and the government agencies, those who stuck in between are the poor citizens who live hand to mouth. The solution of the problem might lie in winning the confidence of tribal people by paving the path of progress in their areas, as is cited by Abdullah Khan in his story. But I do not think it will work as their only dream is to hold the power in their own hands. And all such efforts in the past brought no fruit. In this case the government, both at the Centre and in the states, should leave their dilly-dallying attitude and come up with some concrete plan to counter the problem.
