Lok Sabha Elections 2024 results are out. Neither the INDIA coalition nor NDA has got a clear majority. But Mr. Modi, in his typical style, announced with great fanfare that NDA is going to form the government for the third time. Indian voters are sitting with their fingers crossed. Prayers are on the lips of 14 crore citizens, who want the period of decadelong misgovernance to come to an end, giving way to an efficient, people-friendly and truly democratic government.
Let us hope that the government we get will truly unite people and not divide them on communal and parochial lines. People are extremely frustrated and traumatized because of the negative practices of divide and rule and misuse of religious bigotry.
This election has brought it out in a crystal-clear manner that people have squarely rejected the communal, hate-filled and undemocratic practices of Modi. They want broad-based, human-friendly policies. They are looking forward to a benign dispensation, which does not bank on hate-filled policies. Modi’s policies of favoring crony capitalists have been rejected.
In this respect, the largest state, Uttar Pradesh has played a very decisive part. Out of 80 seats of this most populous state, the BJP could get only 33 seats. The construction of Ram temple also could not satisfy the Hindu majority of this state. This indicates that people, even uneducated common people of rural areas have the sense to distinguish between true religion and pseudo-religion. This becomes more manifest in the defeat of BJP candidate from Faizabad parliamentary constituency that includes Ayodhya. People have given a message to the Modi dispensation that they understand what is true religion and what is pseudo-religion. The result of the 18th Lok Sabha elections has proved that people do not want hate; they want love. They do not like false and unfulfilled guarantees. They want solid action and genuine work for the solution of their day-to-day problems.
Whichever government comes to power, it must learn all hard lessons that the mandate presents. People know how India was mortgaged to crony capitalists, how inflation skyrocketed, how life became a trauma, how hospitals, universities and projects were announced and inaugurated one after another, how there was no tangible development in the standard of living of common people, and how life became a burden for people.
BSP could not win even a single seat in UP because people understood that this party was dancing on the tunes of the BJP. This brings out the truth of age-old wisdom that one cannot fool people every time. The whole country has almost revolted against the anti-people policies of the ruling dispensation. This is the most positive outcome of this election that people want democracy and not autocracy. Solid action and not hollow promises. Love not hate. Tangible results on the ground and not empty guarantees.
This revolt of the people raises our hopes that democracy would be safe, the Constitution would be safe and Ganga-Jamni civilization will thrive and people will defend to death their freedom, human rights and preference for good inter-religious relations. Thus, people have taught a democratic, moral and humane lesson to the would-beruling dispensation of this great country.
