The editorial (Radiance, May 4-10) entitled, “Building a Better Society” calls upon the Muslim intellectuals to present a comprehensive road map of ‘rebuilding human society on sound moral principles’.
This scribe feels that ‘presentation’ is not enough. Nor is there a dearth of this presentation. Many concerned men of calibre have made it in thousands upon thousands of pages down the centuries since it was first presented fourteen hundred and thirty odd years ago.
Presentation alone might even be regarded as an absence of responsible contribution to the situation in India, which seems to be downgrading continually.
What is needed is to put these principles into practice. If Islamic principles are to be used to build a better society, in India let us say, then Indian Muslims must set up and lead a political party with the support of justice-loving Hindus, Sikhs etc. and test their proposed methods and processes among its masses through a full scale participation in the political process. A political party alone can put into practice a comprehensive programme of life elevating initiatives formulated to serve humanity, particularly its poor and wretched components.
Let us forget our hesitations, let us set aside our needs and concerns and let us think of all Indians and begin a new journey towards the creation of a just and righteous society in India for all. We will, Insha Allah, find our redemption through this labour of love.
