Hyderabad, Jan 20:

A 17-year-old student was killed during a fight between two students at a madrasa in Hyderabad over sharing of a photograph on social media.

The deceased was identified as Mohammed Raaqim, a native of Bihar.

The incident occurred on January 18 at the madrasa located at Madrasa Anwarul Quran at Narsingi.

According to police, Raaqim sustained critical injuries when another student of the same madrasa thrashed him. The injured was shifted to Golconda Area Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police investigations revealed that Raaqim had a fight with another minor student over the issue of sharing of a picture on Facebook. The deceased was angry over the student posting his photograph on Facebook with an objectionable comment. The two boys had a heated argument and the other student badly thrashed Raaqim resulting in critical injuries. He was shifted to hospital but he had already succumbed to the injuries.

The incident sent shockwaves among the managements of Islamic seminaries in Hyderabad.

It is being asked what the management of madrasa was doing when a fight between two students had escalated to such a level.

Questions are also being raised on the activities of students studying at hundreds of madrasas. The parents of students in these madrasas will be concerned after the shocking incident.

A large number of students from various parts of Telangana and other states study in madrasas. The incident also brought into focus the activity of students over social media.

The managements will be under pressure to check their activities and take steps to recurrence of such incidents.
