The teachers of Madrasas in Allahabad and Kaushambi have not been paid salaries for the last 14 months. Most of them are on the verge of starvation. As many as 23 Madrasa teachers in Allahabad and 20 in Kaushambi are not getting salaries since May 2009. These teachers have raised their grievances with the concerned department several times but no action has been taken on the issue so far. Mohammad Haroon Saqib, a teacher, expressed surprise over the attitude of the minority welfare department. He said if it is not possible for the department to solve the woes of the teachers, the Madrasas should be attached to the education department. This would solve the problems of the teachers. President of managers association, Madaris-e-Arabia Mohammad Shamim Hashmi said it is for the first time that the Madrasa teachers have not received salaries for such a long period. “This proves that the state government is not serious to solve the problems of Madrasa teachers,” he added.
