“Madrasas have played a key role in the freedom struggle. In fact it is due to the infinite sacrifices that we are breathing in a fresh air.” These sentiments were expressed by Kumari Shailja, Minister for Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation in Panipat on 10 February. She was addressing a Haj Conference organised by Madrasa Qurania Faizul Uloom. She regretted that Indian Haj pilgrims had to face unnecessary hardships during Haj in Saudi Arabia. Speaking on the occasion, Hafiz Peerji Husain Ahmad presented a detailed proposal for reducing the hardships of Haj pilgrims. He complained that Haj Committee is ignoring the problems of pilgrims from North Haryana. The quota of Yamna Nagar, Pachkola and Anabala is very less. The draw of lots is carried out at Mewat which is against the law. More importantly, the Haj pilgrims have to face unnecessary hardships at the airport and in Saudi Arabia primarily due to incompetent Haj Committee. One of the resolutions suggested for a unified and common Wakf Board for Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh. The resolution demanded that all of these Boards be combined together for the better service of Haj pilgrims.
