The report of Islah-e-Muashira Committee, Suraj Nagar, (Radiance Viewsweekly dated 8 June 2024), banning or initiating to ban un-Islamic practices during a marriage ceremony prevailed in the Muslim society, is entertaining.

But the Committee’s list of such practices ignored the most or one of the most heinous practices, dowry. The bride’s family is compelled to give dowry either in cash or kind. This prevailing system must be abolished to make weddings easy.

Moreover, the Committee mentioned in its announcement that women will not welcome Baraat (wedding procession). It implies that Baraat as a whole is not un-Islamic whereas there is no conception of Baraat in Islam. The word Baraat in Hindi, consists of bar (groom) and yatra (procession) and it is specifically practised in the Hindu society. Let’s make efforts to stop all un-Islamic practices like dowry and Baraat.

Stop Beef Exports to Muslim Countries by Hindu Traders

  1. Raja Singh, Telangana BJP MLA, has made provocative communal statements against Muslims in a Hindu Dharma Sabha held in Bhiwandi, a Muslim-majority city in Maharashtra, a day before Eid al-Adha, claiming among others a complete ban on cow slaughter and anti-Love Jihad Act. He said: had the BJP won more than 400 seats in Lok Sabha polls, India would have been declared a Hindu Rashtra.

First of all, T. Raja Singh should demand the banning of cow slaughter and beef consumption in states permitted by the BJP government. He should also make concerted efforts to see to it that meat and beef exports to Muslim countries by Hindu traders come to an end.

Check Living Conditions of NRIs

The safety of our nationals, who go in search of livelihood means and education is of paramount importance and so the report that 45 Indians had died in a devastating fire in Kuwait, came as a big blow to everyone.

What actually caused the fire is still under investigation but the fact that it happened at the place these workers were accommodated points to the need for safer living and even working conditions. This is something the Indian government should be deeply concerned about as there are 8.8 million non-resident Indians (NRIs) living in the Gulf countries alone engaged in various professions. It is a moot question if enough thought has been given to this aspect concerning NRIs.

Even Schools Not Spared in Gaza

It was terrible to read about how an Israeli strike on a school in the Gaza Strip killed as many as 40 people, including women and children who had taken shelter there. Will there be no end to this cycle of death and suffering with the war now in its eighth month killing more than 37000 people?

Have people across the world lost their human instincts and the ability to collectively raise their voice against the brutality and massacres which the land of the Palestinians is witnessing on a daily basis? It’s time for a concerted and determined bid by world powers to end the war once and for all. A lot of people will definitely agree with him.
