This refers to Vice President M. Hamid Ansari’s January 19 proposed move to make Intelligence apparatus accountable to a Standing Committee of Parliament. This is high time to make Intelligence agencies accountable as we have witnessed the repercussions of faulty Intelligence on the Telangana issue and lousiness of Intelligence agency on 26/11, only a few to name. Non-accountability of Intelligence has greatly affected our internal as well as external security. Vice President is correct in his call for a need to set up a Standing Committee of Parliament on Intelligence in a bid to make agencies accountable to the Legislature which will bring more transparency in the functioning of the Intelligence agency and will help preventing the misuse of the same.
