Even as the ATS and Mumbai police team mourn over the death of their bravest men, the ATS team has resolved that despite the setback their best tribute to Karkare would be to ensure that the cases he had promised to take to their final conclusion would not be affected. Mohan Kulkarni, investigating officer in the Malegoan case said, “Our morale is high, Karkare sir was a great guiding factor with his vast experience in handling cases and criminal psychology. We will miss him but work needs to go on.”

Special Public Prosecutor Rohini Salian, who was appointed to argue for the Anti-Terrorism Squad and knew Karkare well, adds, “A tragic incident has happened, it may be a break but the work taken on by him won’t stop.” Accepting that the probe was at a crucial stage in the Malegaon case, Salian said: “No one is indispensable.” Speaking to a national daily, State Intelligence Department (SID) officer D. Sivanandhan said, “Karkare was a nice and amicable man who guided the ATS officers. But the world moves on and the officers will surely pay a tribute to Karkare by working more zealously in taking the cases to their final conclusion, leading to a conviction.”
