Malegaon witnessed a massive shutdown as thousands of residents protested the rape and killing of a three-year-old girl in Dongrale village of Nashik district. The crowd demanded capital punishment for the accused. The call for the strongest action received support from several political leaders.

Women, men and young people joined the march. Shops and markets across Malegaon tehsil remained closed. Residents from Hindu and Muslim communities walked together. Urdu educational institutions joined the bandh. The protest reflected collective anger and grief across the town.
