It is very unfortunate and highly condemnable that Sheikh Hasina’s government in Bangladesh has adopted a policy of vengeance, cruelty and authoritarianism.
Sheikh Hasina’s regime went ahead with the execution of Maulana Motiur Rahman Nizami, the 73-year old chief of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. In spite of worldwide protests and appeals he was hanged on 10 May. Human Rights and Islamic organisations in the whole world have strongly condemned the execution which was imposed by the highly questionable sham trial under a controversial law promulgated by Awami League’s government.
With this extrajudicial murder, the world renowned Islamic leader has joined his illustrious colleagues Abdul Qadir Molla, Ali Ahsan Mujahid, Muhammad Kamaruzzaman and BNP’s Salahuddin Choudhri and scores of other martyrs whose only crime was their love for Islam and struggle to make Islamic life a reality in Bangladesh.
Like his martyred predecessors, Maulana refused to beg mercy from his tormentors and declared His Lord’s Mercy is sufficient for him and that Allah should be pleased with his sacrifice in His way. May Allah accept his death for His cause for liberating people from the bondage of anti-Islam, ungodly, unscrupulous elements!
Hasina has successfully fixed the opposition, gagged media, suppressed dissent and frightened masses through money and muscle power. She should not forget that Allah the Almighty will punish her for her atrocious behaviour towards true servants of Islam. She should learn a lesson from what happened to her father who broke an Islamic country by whipping regionalism and parochialism. Does she think that her power will never wane? Akbar Allahabadi’s couplet aptly applies to her: “Jo airship per chadhe to ham hi hain Khuda nahin hai / Jo airship se gire to laash ka bhi pata nahin hai” [When they board the airship, they think that there is no God (and nobody can challenge them) / But when they fall from the airship, there is not even a sign of the shreds of their dead bodies.]
Sooner or later the people of Bangladesh will throw the yoke of foreign inspired atrocities and enjoy the shade of Islam and Islamic way of life. May Allah help them in their sincere endeavours!
