Maratha student organisation Chhava attacked a masjid in Nanded during Iftar time. Just before Iftar time on September 29, Chhava members came near the Masjid Abedin where people were busy shopping for Iftar. An altercation between shopkeepers and Chhava goons soon turned into stone pelting. Reports said Chhava members had come prepared with stones in their vehicles.

About 25 people were injured as a result of stone pelting, mostly Muslims. Mob pelted stones on the Masjid and the surrounding areas. Five police personnel are also among the injured.

Police resorted to lathi charge and tear gas shelling to control the situation.

The Maghrib and Isha prayers following the incident were offered in the masjid. Muslims called for a bandh on September 30 to protest the attack on Muslims and the masjid.
