Maulana Abdul Raheem Qureshi, President of All India Majlis Tameer-e-Millat and Assistant General Secretary All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), breathed his last at a private hospital in Hyderabad on 14 January. He was 82.

On the national front, Qureshi played an instrumental role as Assistant General Secretary of AIMPLB. He was a very effective spokesperson of the Board as he defended Muslim cause and raised voice effectively for Muslim issues at the various fora. Like a good legal luminary, he always countered criticism and conspiracies against the Muslims, logically and meaningfully. As President of Tameer-e-Millat he worked hard for the benefit of religious, political, social and economic conditions of the Muslim community whenever required. He stood by the community and defended their cause as and when required.

Thousands of people from various parts of the country offered funeral prayer of Maulana Qureshi at Makkah Masjid. He was later buried at his ancestral graveyard in Osman Shahi. President of All India Muslim Personal Law Board Maulana Rabe Hassani Nadvi has expressed deep condolences on the death of Maulana Qureshi, describing it as a huge loss to the Muslim community.

Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and Vice President AIMPLB, in a press statement issued on 14 January, expressed deep condolences over the demise of Maulana Qureshi, saying that his death is a great loss to the entire Muslim community. Death of Maulana Syed Nizamuddin, Secretary AIMPLB and Maulana Qureshi in a very short span of time is indeed a great loss to AIMPLB. Their contributions were remarkable. Omari also said that being a lawyer, Qureshi defended all aspects and issues pertaining to personal laws and Shari’ah and played the role of spokesperson in the desired manner. A dua was also held and condolence was also paid to the aggrieved family. His contribution for the sake of the community and the Board will always be remembered.
