Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari was re-elected Amir (President) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind for the next four-year term during the session of Central Representatives Council (CRC) held at JIH headquarters in the Capital on April 6. The 74-year old renowned Islamic scholar and prominent author, Maulana Omari was first elected, in April 2007, Amir of the country’s largest Islamic organisation, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind for the term 2007-2011. The Maulana is an alumni of Jamia Darussalam, Omerabad, Tamilnadu and graduate in English from Aligarh Muslim University. He is Vice President of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Chancellor of a renowned educational institution Jamiatul Falah Azam Garh, Editor of an academic quarterly Tahqeeqat-e-Islami, and leader of a number of organizations. Maulana Omari has over 35 books to his credit; his books have been rendered into many Indian and foreign languages. The Maulana is also a famous orator and speaker. His Eid and Friday sermons at Masjid Ishaat-e-Islam in the sprawling campus of Markaz have gained extraordinary popularity.

The announcement of the election of Jamaat Amir was made during yesterday’s session of 146 members, including 19 ladies, CAC going on since April 3.

Besides electing Ameer for the next consecutive term, Central Representatives Council (CRC)  also elected the Central Advisory Committee for the next term. The 18 members elected to this committee are:  Prof K.A. Siddique Hassan, Mr. M. Jafar, Mr. Nusrat Ali, Mr. Syed Sadatullah Husaini, Engr. M. Saleem, Dr. S.Q.R. Ilyas, Dr. Hasan Raza, Mr. H. Abdur Raqeeb, Dr. M. Rafat, Mr. T.K. Abdullah, Mr. S. Aminul Hasan, Dr. Abdul Haq Ansari, Mr. Ejaz Ahmed Aslam, Mr. Mujtaba Farooq, Mr. T. Arif Ali, Mr. S.M. Mallick, Maulana Mohammed Yusuf Islahi, and Maulana Waliullah Sayeedi Falahi.

The Jamaat chief, in consultation with the Central Advisory Committee members, re-appointed Mr. Nusrat Ali as Secretary-General of the organisation for the next consecutive term.

On being re-elected as Amir, Maulana Omari said the duties of this post can be performed only with the help and guidance of Allah the Exalted and sincere cooperation extended by the members and associates of the movement. He further said his efforts would be to accelerate the Jamaat endeavours to provide guidance and solution for the ideological and practical difficulties the country has been in, and present Islam as the viable way of life with greater attention, zeal and enthusiasm before the suffering humanity. The Maulana added that the Jamaat would take new initiatives to solve every problem of citizens of the country, of course with the help and cooperation of well-wishers and sympathizers, howsoever limited resources the Jamaat have.

On this occasion, the Maulana reminded those associated with the Jamaat that they are important part of a historical endeavour with reference to rendering service to Islam in the country; therefore they ought to be active all the time to serve the cause of Islam with their charged commitment and total action. Drawing the attention of the Muslims as well, the Jamaat chief said they too should consider that the duties the Jamaat has been doing are in fact the duties of everyone of the community; and to invest all our potentialities in this work is really so great that everyone should aspire for it.

Speaking on world scenario, the Maulana averred that it is pleasant that Islamic awakening in the Muslim world is breaking the shackles of persecution, and paving the way for bringing to the fore the bright face of Islam as well as its characteristic of providing salvation in the real sense. But it is sad that anti-Islam forces are putting obstacles in this way. It is also a matter of grave concern that imperialistic forces, having played with the Palestinian imbroglio and devastated Muslim countries like Iraq and Afghanistan, are busy looting the resources of Muslim world, and now they have reached Libya to satiate their lust. To counter these condemnable, oppressive and aggressive moves is possible only by the Muslim Ummah’s getting united and emerging as a bunyanum marsoos (leaden wall) under the guidance of the Qur’an. The Ummah should take initiatives in this regard.
