Maulana Syed Nizamuddin, General Secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Amir-e-Shariyat of Imarate Sharia, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, breathed his last on 17 October, following prolonged illness. He was 89.

Maulana Syed Nizamuddin, General Secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Amir-e-Shariyat of Imarate Sharia, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, breathed his last on 17 October, following prolonged illness. He was 89.

Maulana Syed Nizamuddin belonged to an educated family. He received his primary education at the hands of his father at home. Afterwards he was admitted at Madarsa Imdadia, Darbhanga for one year in 1941. In 1942 he was sent to Darul Uloom, Deoband for higher education. He studied Hadith there up to 1947.

After completion of education, he adopted teaching and joined Madarasa Riyazul Uloom, Sathi District Champaran as its Principal and remained there for 12 years from 1949 to 1962. He joined Madarsa Rasheedul Uloom at Chatra as its Principal and remained there for two years from 1963 to 1964.

He was identified by then Ameer Shariat Maulana Syed Shah Minnatullah Rahmani for the work at Imarat-e-Shariah. Therefore, he joined the Imarat-e-Shariah in 1965 as its Nazim (Administrator).

In 1991 he was unanimously elected General Secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board after the death of Maulana Syed Shah Minnatullah Rahmani. He was elected Ameer Shariat, Imarat-e-Shariah, Bihar, Orissa and Jharkhand in the year 1998 after the death of Maulana Abdul Rahman.

Maulana Syed Nizamuddin took oath of allegiance to Shaikhul Hind Maulana Hussain Ahmad Madani. He was Shaikhul Hind’s disciple as well. He was member of the Majlis-e-Shoora of Darul Uloom, Deoband, and Majlis-e-Muntzama, Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulema, Lucknow.

In a press statement on 18 October, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omeri condoled the passing away of Maulana Syed Nizamuddin and termed it as a big loss of the Millat. Maulana Omeri said that as Ameer Shariat, Imarat-e-Shariah, Bihar, Orissa and Jharkhand and General Secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Maulana Nizamuddin was greatly respected among the various sections of Muslims in India.

Maulana Omeri further said that Maulana Nizamuddin used to maintain close relationships with Muslim organisations, and institutions as well as with Muslim leaders. Mentioning the qualities of head and heart of Maulana Nizamuddin, the JIH chief said that he had very cordial relations with Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and its leaders; he also most often used to visit JIH headquarters and exchanged thoughts on the various Islamic issues with JIH leaders.

Late Maulana Nizamuddin was a close relation of former Naib Ameer of JIH, Mr. Muhammad Jafar and Manager of Markazi Maktaba Islami, Mr. Syed Ateequr Rab. On hearing the news of his serious illness, Mr. Jafar rushed to Patna a few days ago while Mr. Ateequr Rab reached Patna to attend the funeral of the departed leader.

Maulana Omeri also prayed to Allah for the acceptance of long services rendered by Maulana Nizamuddin, for his forgiveness and high place in Jannatul Firdaus and also for his family members and close relations to bear this loss with utmost patience and fortitude.
