The Civic Corporation of Greater Mumbai has recently approved unanimously a proposal to ban public display of lingerie especially on mannequins. But the proposal is yet to be cleared by Municipal Commissioner. As soon as the proposal was brought by a BJP corporator, RituTawade, the house jumped to support it. The corporator has cited the Indecent Representation on Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, in support of her demand. She said to the house that these types of steps are to be taken necessarily so as to curb crimes against women.The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and other social organisations have been also strongly condemning the objectification and commodification of women in order to protect their chastity.
