Mohammed Sadiq Sheikh, alleged operative of Indian Mujahideen (IM) was on May 11 discharged by the Special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Court in the Mumbai 7/11 serial train blasts case. Sheikh was discharged after the state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) said there was no prima facie evidence to prove his involvement. “We have not found evidence to suggest his role in the 7/11 blasts,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (ATS) K P Raghuvanshi. Earlier also, the ATS, which on November 30, 2006 had filed an over-10,000 page chargesheet in the 7/11 case against 13 arrested accused and 15 wanted accused, was initially reluctant to seek Sheikh’s custody in the case. Despite the Crime Branch’s claims, top ATS officials maintained that they had not been ‘officially informed’ of Sadiq’s links to the 7/11 blasts.
