Meerut-based Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) has officially cancelled the post-doctoral fellowship (PDF) of Prabha Parmar as leading Indian Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has criticised the University for awarding research works on the novel of ‘controversial’ author Salman Rushdie. Darul Uloom Deoband believes that Salman Rushdie, the author of The Satanic Verses, has blasphemed against Islam and hurt sentiments of devoted Muslims across the world. Moreover, they say that The Satanic Verses is banned by Indian government and as a law-abiding Islamic seminary he should be considered blacklisted. But, Prof Arun Kumar has cited a different reason behind the cancellation; he says that she has not been present due to some medical reasons which means she is effectively disqualified for the grant.
