To ensure providing Hyderabad Metro connectivity to the Old City, the Government of Telangana on January 6 paid Rs.20 crore compensation to 41 owners of 34 affected properties.
Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) MD N.V.S. Reddy and Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durisetti participated in the cheque distribution programme.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said appropriate compensation is being paid to those who lose their properties for road widening and construction of 7.5 km long Metro line in the Old City from MGBS to Chandrayangutta. He said the suggestions of MP Asaduddin Owaisi have been taken into consideration in this process.
The HAML MD said the second phase of the Metro will have more facilities than the first phase and this will transform the Old City. He said that as per the suggestion of the MP, modern facilities such as skywalks, footpaths, etc., will be provided from the proposed Metro stations to tourist areas like Charminar, Lad Bazaar, and Salar Jung Museum.
He said the Chief Minister has given directions for the development of the Old City and accordingly, Metro is being made available to the residents of the Old City.
“We are ready to fulfilthe CM’s resolve to complete the seven- and-a-half kilometer Old City Metro in four years at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,741 crore,” he said.
