Union Minster for Minority Affairs, K Rahman Khan, on 25 June, stated that the commercial development of Waqf properties may generate more funds for the welfare of Muslims and his ministry was planning to set up a National Waqf Development Corporation for the purpose. Mr. Khan, who is also the head of the Central Waqf Council further added that the better coordination between state Waqf councils and the CWC can help achieve better results for the community. The minister also urged the state representative of Waqf Boards to ensure audit of the accounts and to computerise its record. While on the other hand, this move of the government has alerted some Muslim leaders as it may open the door to sale of Waqf properties. A similar point, to sale the Waqf Land for relatively greater benefit, has been included in Waqf Bill (Amendment) 2010 that is yet to be passed.
