The ongoing tussle between the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) over Raj Thackeray’s tirade against the north Indians living in Mumbai, turned into violence on February 3. As the MNS workers tried to attack Samajwadi Party workers and targeted in particular the Muslims who had come to attend a rally organised by the United National Progressive Alliance, which was addressed by former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav, at Shivaji Park in Mumbai.
The MNS stepped up its agitation against north Indians settled in Mumbai and other parts of the State. There was a lot of tension at the rally and the MNS party members clashed with the SP workers and Muslims. There were also incidents of stone throwing and some vehicles were damaged in Dadar area, reports said quoting police sources.
