The Sankaracharya of Puri Swami Adhokssjananda Devtirth on August 4 alleged that all unexploded bombs found in Surat were design of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Talking to newsmen in Guwahati the Sankaracharya said he had reasons to believe that all these unexploded bombs were meant for spreading communal tension. “For this I am accusing Mr Modi, who is working on an agenda to repeat Godhra kind of situation as the election is nearing. I appeal to the Central government to keep a vigil as Mr Modi is capable of doing anything,” he said, adding, “He is the main culprit, otherwise you would not get so much of unexploded bombs from tree tops to the footpaths.” According to him, Mr Modi is trying to polarise the Hindu vote with elections in the horizon.
“There may be an international and ISI angle to the exploded bombs but I doubt the story of recovery of 24 unexploded bombs in Surat. The police and civil machinery are in collusion and Mr Modi is trying to utilise them in the name of religion. He has done it in the past and is capable of doing it again,” he remarked. “Islam’s first responsibility is to protect and respect other’s religion. The philosophy of Hinduism is based on tolerance. But Narendra Modi is opposed to it as he is master of using religion for political gains,” he added.
