Justice J.S. Verma, Chairman National Human Rights Commission on January 23 said that it was the responsibility of Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat to provide full protection for riot victim Bilkis Bano. Bilkis, a gang-rape victim is an eye-witness of Gujarat riots during 2002. In an interview with an English daily, Mr. Verma said that to ensure the protection of all the eye-witnesses of Gujarat riots is the responsibility of state government but Bilkis case has proved that the state government is still unable to provide the protection. The Fast Track court on January 20 convicted 11 persons involved in Bilkis Bano rape case.
