The death sentence an Egyptian court awarded to the country’s first democratically elected and now militarily ousted President, Mohamed Morsi and over 100 other leaders, members and supporters of Ikhwan al-Muslimoon on 16 May has earned worldwide protests and condemnations.
The All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat, in a statement on 18 May said: “The continuous barrage of wholesale death sentences against the political opponents of the military regime in Egypt proves that the putschist generals are still not ready for any reconciliation with the country’s only democratically-elected President and his supporters.”
The AIMMM president, Dr. Zafarul-Islam Khan, said these death sentences are a blot on the face of Egypt and a proof that the putschist generals are adamant to push the country to perpetual chaos and civil war. The only way out for Egypt, said Dr. Khan , is to declare a general amnesty and to unconditionally set free all wrongly detained and unjustly tried opponents of the regime, and to start a new beginning by holding free and fair elections.
Dr. Khan condemned the American and Gulf governments which are backing the putschist generals in this dangerous game at a time when the whole of the Arab world is reeling under a grand destabilisation game to suit Israeli and American interests.
Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari, Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has strongly condemned the death sentence awarded to Dr Morsi and others. While terming the judgment as the worst case of trampling of justice, Maulana Omari has urged all peace-loving people of the world, United Nations, leaders of the governments and human rights organisations to protest against and stop this brazen oppression and open terrorism.
The Jamaat chief has also demanded the ruling group of Egypt to keep from anti-Islam attitude, desist from murdering the justice and democracy, revoke all false cases against the members of Ikhwan including Dr Morsi, Dr Abdul Badie, Allama Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, release all the arrested people and annul death sentences against them.
Maulana Omari said that the tyrannical rulers of Egypt have put Jamia Al-Azhar to a big test by seeking its approval for Morsi’s death sentence.
Other agencies, organisations and countries that condemned this death sentence include Amnesty International, UN, EU, Turkey, US, UK, Germany, UAE.
Around 150 protesters gathered in Bosnian capital Sarajevo after Friday prayers on 22 May to march against the death penalty handed down to Dr. Morsi. At Gazi Husrev-beg mosque they marched through the city centre waving Egyptian and Bosnian flags and carrying photographs of Morsi. They shouted for a “Free Egypt” as well as slogans “Damn you Sisi” and “We are with you Morsi”.
Popular Front of India also staged a protest march against the death sentence in front of the Egyptian embassy in New Delhi on 19 May.
