The saga of illegal arrests of innocent Muslim youth is nothing new and it is not limited to a region or an area; it is a nationwide phenomenon. The recent acquittals from the courts also corroborate to the fact that the youth are picked up from somewhere else and framed in baseless charges only to be released after long trials citing the paucity of evidences. The recent verdicts from the courts have also questioned the working of the police and security agencies.

In this regard many efforts from the community have been made to bring the issue to the notice of the government and the masses at large. Many Muslim organisations joined hands to fight this cause. In this regard the recent meeting of the various MPs from different political parties with the Prime Minister is a significant step. Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari expressed satisfaction and great hope from the move and said that the Prime Minister would play his part and soon find out the solution to the problem. He hoped that the PM would act upon what he has said and translate his words and assurances into reality. And as a result the innocents languishing in jails would be freed along with the proper compensation that would give them a little respite from the great wrongs and injustices that have been done to them, he added.

He lamented the government’s cold attitude towards the demands of the Muslim organisations with regard to the illegal arrests. There have been many peaceful protests all across the nation but the government did not pay any heed to its citizens. A JIH delegation also met with Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and drew his attention towards the cause, however it is sad that no action has been taken as yet, he added. Muslims tried all the possible methods ranging from protests to appeals, from writing letters to meeting officials, however nothing has been done as yet and the illegal arrests are taking place at a faster pace than earlier.

Maulana Omari however said that the collective meeting of the Members of Parliament from different parties is a positive step and the assurances given by the PM should be worked on and implemented with immediate effect if we really want to save the deteriorating situation prevailing in our country.
