The defence in the Mumbai train blasts case on 28 May argued that as per call data records (CDRs) and office documents, the accused Asif Bashir Khan, was present at his home and workplace contrary to the prosecution’s claims. Advocate Khan Abdul Wahab drew the judge’s attention to various discrepancies in the confession statement of Mr Khan, a civil engineer from Jalgaon working in Kandivali.
Mr Wahab said that according to Mr Khan’s CDRs, he was not present at or near the blasts site or where the police claim his presence for assembling bombs. The court was informed that according to the CDRs, Mr Khan was at his workplace during working hours, and on Sunday and other parts of weekdays, he was at his home in Mira Road. Mr Wahab said the prosecution did not call witnesses from Mr Khan’s office despite recording their statements, which would have proved his presence.
