For 20 years, the murder suspect in Malaysia evaded police. But, his past crimes caught up with him. The man had allegedly stabbed a youth to death in Skudai in 1987 when he was 23 years old. But even though he had been on the police wanted list since then, he was never caught. In the intervening years, the man opened up a business and became successful. However, luck ran out on him in Taman Permas Jaya yesterday when he spotted a police patrol car and tried to avoid being seen by them. This only served to arouse the suspicions of the policemen, who stopped the suspect’s Proton Perdana. Checks revealed that the man was on the police wanted list and he was detained. On Dec 6, 1987, the man was believed to have stabbed a 20-year-old youth in front of a restaurant on Jalan Bantera 1, Skudai, following an argument. The victim’s body was found lying face down with stab wounds on his back.
State police chief Datuk Hussin Ismail, who confirmed the incident, said: “Criminals can run or hide, but the law will eventually get them. “In this case, even after 20 years.”
