Dr. Zafarul-Islam Khan, President All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat (AIMMM), the umbrella body of Indian Muslim organisations, severely condemned the statement issued by the Union Home Minister Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde absolving BJP and RSS of all charges of terrorism. In a statement on 21 February, Dr. Khan said that the Union Home Minister’s eating humble pie at the behest of his party bosses and BJP leaders is a sad commentary on the UPA government’s commitment to fight terror.

Dr. Khan added that Mr. Shinde’s statement flies in the face of facts contained in the charge sheets of Malegaon and Ajmer blast cases, Aseemanand’s confession and the disclosure made during the police chiefs’ conference last year that Hindutva terrorists are suspected in 16 blast cases and that their involvement in four of them has been proved. Dr. Khan said it flies in the face of Mr Shinde’s own home secretary on 22 January this year naming ten terrorists directly connected to the Sangh Parivar. His statement also flies in the face of open BJP support to Hindutva terrorists like their top leaders’ meeting with the Prime Minister to protest against the arrest of Pragya Singh Thakur, their support to the arrested terror-accused, their meetings with such accused in jails and courtrooms, etc.

Mr. Shinde also failed to take note that that L.K. Advani went to meet Sohrabuddin fake encounter case-accused Amit Shah in jail and how the BJP saved Modi from certain arrest after Amit Shah’s.

Dr. Khan further said that Mr. Shinde’s statement shows that the old policy of arrests and incarceration of Muslim youths for crimes committed by Hindutva terrorists will continue. Dr. Khan added that this statement is a sad event in secular India’s history and shows that the UPA is not serious about fighting terror.
