Welcoming the results of the 15th Lok Sabha elections, All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat (AIMMM) has demanded more powers for the National Commission for the Minorities. In a press statement it said the Indian Muslims have voted in power Congress and other secular parties precisely to give a practical shape to the pro-minority programmes and policies of the previous government. The Mushawarat further demanded that new government must take up on a priority basis the issue of the release of innocent Muslims who have been wrongly detained on false charges of terrorism as well as establish a full fledged Ministry of Minority Affairs at the Centre. According to the General Secretary of AIMMM, the Indian electorate has rejected the communal and divisive politics and voted in favour of secular dispensation and a more stable nation.
