The Rajasthan Muslim Forum has decided to organise legal camps in the city to create awareness among the people of their legal rights and duties in the wake of several Muslims being arrested for allegedly spreading terror. The meeting was held at a hotel opposite Vidhan Sabha in Jaipur on August 26.
Engineer Muhammad Salim, president of RMF, raised the issue of Dr Amanullah Jamali, who was kept in detention for more than two weeks before being released on Monday. “His innocence was proved by the police but yet he was dismissed from his job. Further, his landlord asked him to vacate the house in a day or two,” he said.
According to the law, a person cannot be kept in custody for more then 24 hours without being arrested. In the past three weeks, several Muslims had been kept in detention for more than a week. “Police have been instrumental in violating human rights.” He said that several human rights groups have come forward to raise the issue of illegal police detentions. “These groups have decided to organise a rally against the victimisation of Muslims. The forum has unanimously decided to support the rally,” he added.
