The students who topped the SSLC and HSC board examinations conducted by Government of Tamil Nadu, in March 2006 were awarded the ‘Afzal Year Award 2006’ in a function organised by Students Islamic Organisation of India, Tamil Nadu Zone on at Chennai November 25.
Miss Maza Nazeem of class 8, from Nagercoil was awarded the young scientist award for her High Tech Train Toilet Project, which has been recognised by the Railways Board.
Delivering the Presidential Address, H.Abdur Raqeeb Zonal Patron, SIO TamilNadu highlighted the contribution of Late Afzal Hussain to the field of education.
Mr. Khalid A.K.Bukhari, Director ETA India, commiserated the students for their hard work and excellent performance.
Speaking on the occasion, Chevalier Dr. G.F. Xavier Raj, Professor, Dept of Foreign Language, Loyola College , Chennai, requested the students to join together and work for creating a peaceful and developed India .
Dr Haj Mohideen, State President, SIO TN , said that SIO worked among the students of India with ‘Education, Excellence and Ethic’ as its motto. He said that SIO conducts educational awareness programmes, education and career guidance programmes, scholarship programmes, etc. throughout the country.
Dr K.V.S Habeeb Mohammed, Vice President, IFT Chennai highlighted that most of the toppers were girls and attributed their focused and hard work to this trend.
A district level, inter school quiz competition was also held in which 40 teams participated and students from KBA school, Vandaloor, Crescent Campus, took the first prize.
