Malaysia will host the World Congress of Muslim Librarians and Information Scientists (WCOMLIS2008) at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC). This is the second time Malaysia is hosting the event, the fifth in its series. The congress made its debut in Malaysia in 1986, when it was staged at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Sintok in Kedah. Apart from Malaysia, countries that have hosted the congress are the United States, Turkey and Iran. The United States hosted the first congress in 1982. Organisers of the WCOMLIS2008 are Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) with the collaboration of the Malaysian Librarians and Malaysian Muslim Libraries societies. According to WCOMLIS2008 organising committee member, Shahar Banun Jaafar, after an absence of more than 10 years, USIM and UIAM as well as the Malaysian Librarians Society have taken the initiative to hold the conference. Some 200 delegates are expected to attend the congress.
