A Muslim man’s father has died after an alleged attack linked to his son’s survey of government schools in Bankura district, West Bengal. The Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) has alleged that those responsible for the attack were BJP supporters, and has accused the local police of failing to protect the family.

Abdul, a resident of Karisunda village under the Indus police station, had visited and surveyed government schools in his area, including the school where he once studied. CJP alleges he was subsequently threatened and intimidated.

Abdul shared a video claiming he was assaulted for conducting the school survey. CJP member Ratna Singh alleged that around 100 to 150 BJP supporters, surrounded his house and prevented the family from leaving.

“Abdul in West Bengal is being harassed and criminally intimidated by 100 to 150 alleged BJP goons after he posted a video alleging that he was assaulted for conducting a survey of government schools in his area,” Singh said. She also alleged that local police officials refused to take action and urged West Bengal Police to intervene immediately.

Abdul’s father sustained serious head injuries during the alleged attack. His condition deteriorated and he died shortly after. Singh confirmed the death and questioned the role of the BJP and West Bengal Police.“The police must answer for their failure to protect the family as they are equally liable,” Singh said.
