In a bid to solve the controversy in Sri Venkatarama Swamy (SVS) College, Bantwal, Mangalore, over the ban on Muslim girls wearing burqa, the management of Uppinangady Govrernment First Grade College took the decision to allow the students to wear headscarf of the college uniform colour. At the betterment committee meeting, chaired by Puttur MLA Mallika Prasad it was resolved to solve the issue by permitting Muslim girl students to wear college uniform coloured headscarf. It was also decided to allot a separate room in the college for these students to change their black headscarf and wear the one matching with the colour of the uniform. The college management also imposed a ban on the use of mobile phones by the students on college campus and not to allow their cars inside the campus. The Muslim girl students of the college who initially opposed the decision, later agreed to the proposal after being convinced by their leaders.
