Political differences should not be a stumbling block to efforts to promote unity among Muslims in the country, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said. He said efforts to unite the Muslims must transcend all matters and considerations, including one’s political ideology. “Although we have different political ideologies, the question of unity among Muslims in the country transcends everything in our efforts to develop the Muslims in Malaysia,” the Umno deputy president said at a Maulidur Rasul celebration organised by the Pagoh Umno division. He said unity among the Muslims was badly needed if one were to see success in the development of the economy, education, social and other sectors. Muhyiddin said efforts to develop the Muslims would fail if there was no unity among them. He said unity among the Muslims was a jihad (holy war) which every Muslim had to carry out. He further said that non-Muslims need not worry about the call to strengthen Muslim unity because unity among the Muslims, who formed the core in Malaysia, would ensure the country’s stability.
